OIPA INDIA: MINISTER INVOLVED IN HUNTING


Former Maharashtra Minister Dharamrao Baba Atram, last June was accused of hunting a chinkara deer in the jungles bordering Baramati and Purandar Taluka in Maharashtra.
An incident that came to light after villagers spotted a car with a red beacon in the jungle at night and informed the police.
OIPA representative in India Naresh Kadyan demanded dismissal & arrest of this tainted Minister through mail sent to the President, Prime Minister of India along with the Governor & Chief Minister of the State.  
On July 7, Atram submitted his resignation to Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.
He is the main accused in the case filed under the Protection of Wildlife Act.
Forest officials searching for evidence Atram's residences in Mahabaleshwar found chinkara skin and some bones.
On August 30, 2008, forest department officials arrested former minister of state for transport and tribal welfare Atram. He was sent to judicial custody after being produced in the sessions and criminal court at Saswad in Pune district. The court rejected his bail application. He is likely to be lodged at Yeravada jail in Pune.
