INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PROTEST AGAINST CHINESE FUR

On Monday, February 13 2006, animal lovers from around the world gathered together in front of the Chinese embassies/consulates in their countries to protest the brutalities of the Chinese fur industry.

China is the world's largest exporter of fur. It's lack of animal welfare standards means that millions of animals every year are beaten, clubbed, skinned alive and slaughtered for their fur.

Dog and cat fur items are mislabled under fantasy names so that consumers do not know that the fur they are purchasing has come from what may very well once have been someone's pet. For example, dog and cat fur has been identified under labels such as Gae-wolf, Sobaki,
Asian Jackal, Wildcat, Goyangi, Katzenfelle. This deception constitutes fraud and is an unacceptable trade practice from China or any other country.

On this day of action, we seek to call attention to the barbarity of the Chinese fur industry, to ask consumers to reject cruelty in the name of fashion, and to announce an international boycott of the
Olympic Games in 2008, as well as the Games' sponsors, until such time when China makes significant strides towards enacting and enforcing a comprehensive set of animal laws and regulations that must include a complete ban on the use of dogs and cats for fur and the live-skinning of any fur-bearing animal.
