A few days ago Mandorlo, a greedy alley cat, was hit by a car. He was found, clinging to life, by a kind lady who usually leaves food for him.

After a long series of useless phone calls to the public bodies responsible for animal protection, the woman who found him contacted OIPA volunteers,who rushed to Mandorlo’s rescue and quickly drove him to the vet.

Mandorlo suffered serious neural trauma, a hole in neck and a mandibular fracture that prevented him from eating. After a few days in clinic, he got better and the vets stated he was strong enough to undergo an operation on his mandible. Fortunately, the surgery went well. Fracture stabilization was achieved via a cerclage wire application. During anaesthesia, the veterinarians also cleaned the wound and applied suturing stitches.

However, he still exhibits neurological signs and delayed reflexes that are likely to be of a lasting nature (he doesn’t close his right eye when you put something close to it and he can’t jump) and at the moment he’s able to eat only wet food.

Moreover, he is full of parasites, both in the lungs and gut. Fortunately, he was found FIV and FeLV negative.

In a month he will undergo a new operation in order to remove the cerclage. We all wish him a speedy recovery. He has always had a large appetite and we hope he will soon get to eat all the delicacies he has always loved.

Mandorlo was saved just in time, but he still needs medical care.
