On August 16, our Swiss member league, Atra – Associazione Svizzera abolizione vivisezione, participated in the Animal Rights March in Zurich, a parade promoted by a global network of animal rights activists founded by Surge and Earthling Ed.
The first march took place in London, where 2,500 people peacefully demanded an end to all animal exploitation by marching through central London. Since then, it has become clear that the movement should expand internationally. In 2019, Switzerland joined the initiative promoted by a group of animal lovers in Zurich.
Around 2,000 people took part in the first post-Covid-19 edition in mid-August 2025. It started at Helvetiaplatz, wound through the city streets, and passed iconic Zurich landmarks, such as Haus Hiltl, Bahnhofstrasse, and Langstrasse. After almost two hours, it returned to Helvetiaplatz.
Numerous organizations from all linguistic regions of Switzerland were present to show their support for animal rights. Among them was Atra.
