Left behind in the chaos of war, they have no one — except us!

After more than a year of escalating tensions, Lebanon has once again become an active war zone. Heavy airstrikes are hitting multiple areas across the country, while mass evacuation orders have forced hundreds of thousands of people to flee their homes with little to no warning.

In this devastating context, animals are among the most forgotten victims.

Thousands of pets have been left behind, often locked inside empty homes without food or water. Many others are roaming the streets injured, starving, and terrified.

With no sign of de-escalation, their chances of survival are rapidly diminishing.

ON THE FRONTLINE: RESCUING ANIMALS IN ACTIVE WAR ZONES

OIPA is supporting its member league in Lebanon, Give Me A Paw, which is working tirelessly every day on the frontlines to rescue, protect, and care for animals affected by the war by making a real, life-saving impact where it is needed most.

Since March 5, Give Me a Paw members have been operating in high-risk areas, risking their lives to:

•Rescue abandoned, trapped, and injured animals from war zones

•Provide urgent veterinary care to those in critical condition

•Distribute food and water to strays in evacuated “ghost towns”

•Reunite animals with their displaced families whenever possible

•Support families in displacement to prevent further abandonment

THE IMPACT SO FAR

In just a few days of emergency response the team was able to:

•8 days on the ground
•1,900 kg of food distributed
•93 animals rescued
•79 animals reunited with their families
•14 animals placed in boarding facilities or foster homes
•Injured animals already receiving urgent treatments.

These numbers reflect lives saved but also a crisis that is far from over!
