Italy is known to have a serious stray animals problem, and while the Central and Northern parts of the country are managing the situation quite well, the South is still struggling a lot. There are many issues that hinder a complete liquidation of the problem, starting from mentality and the lack of funds, and ending with certain dog shelters being used for profit. This chain of problems wards off the moment when Italy will have a properly working system, fueled by sterilization policies and shelters that really help stray animals. OIPA is extremely concerned about this issue and this is why a decision has been taken to open a dog shelter in one of the most affected areas – Agrigento, Sicily. Unfortunately, Sicily is one of the regions with the poorest management of the problem: strays are everywhere and no one seems to be concerned for them. This is where “HOPE” intervenes, with the motto “a dream as big as a house” and a lot of actions to be taken to make sure stray dogs are getting proper care.

A kennel to sleep in, food to stay full, friends to play with, a field to race down on, forgetting a heavy past: OIPA Agrigento’s “Hope” dog shelter has always been a safe place for dogs in trouble. Wounded, sick or too weak to survive on the street, all the animals rescued by OIPA’s Blue Angels have found friendly hands that supported them until the very day they were ready to walk autonomously towards the happiness of having a new family.

Now, it is “Hope” that asks for help. In order to continue being the home, even temporary, to the most defenseless creatures, it is necessary to provide it with the appropriate facilities and equipment in line with recent provisions issued by the local Sanitary Services (Asp). It is not just a dog shelter, but also a real oasis of peace meant to heal the wounds of body and soul. The only goal is to accompany the animals towards a future adoption.

Large boxes with heating, a sick bay, big green spaces for playtime and socialization activities, areas dedicated to education and behavioral rehabilitation: this project, created to support “Hope”, aims at making it more and more considerate of the ethological needs of the dogs.
WE HAVE A DREAM AND THIS DREAM IS AS BIG AS THE HOUSE WE WANT TO GIVE TO ANIMALS IN TROUBLE, AND YOU CAN HELP US MAKE IT COME TRUE.
