A valuable experience for our delegation in Cameroon. From July 28 to 30, the 9th Africa Animal Welfare Conference – Action 2025 was held in Yaoundé.
This year’s theme, “Strengthening Actions for Animal Welfare and Environment for a Sustainable Future and Resilient Planet”, focused on tackling critical issues such as biodiversity loss, climate change, and the effects of human activity on ecosystems. These three days had 318 delegates gathered physically in Yaoundé, while over 470 others joined virtually from across Africa and every corner of the globe—demonstrating the universal resonance of the fight for a planet for all.
The event explored key topics like climate change, habitat preservation, sustainable farming, policy development, and community-driven conservation efforts. It served as a platform to promote dialogue on policy, foster new partnerships, present innovative approaches, and emphasize the importance of traditional and indigenous knowledge.
“The richness of the conference reflected the immense diversity and expertise within the community. Through robust discussions, knowledge sharing, and candid reflection, the conference broadened our understanding and helped define concrete actions. The resolutions and calls to action that emerged from these deliberations will serve as a powerful blueprint for the months and years ahead,” said Che Gilbert Ayunwo of OIPA Cameroon.
Key stakeholders at the event include youth leaders, Greenpeace Africa in Cameroon, the African Union Inter-African Bureau for Animal Resources (AU-IBAR), and the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP). These stakeholders are contributing to the development of actionable strategies for a greener, more compassionate planet.
