Our representative of the OIPA delegation in Odisha (India) has appealed to the Prime Minister of India and all members of Parliament requesting to amend the “Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960” enacting the draft of laws already revised and submitted by the Animal Welfare Board of India. Each of the 543 members in the Lower House and the 245 members in the Upper House of the Parliament have received a copy of the letter.

The letter does clearly underline the necessity to guarantee more protection to animals as they are still treated as a commodity or property and not as living and sentient beings as they should. Animals are continuously harmed and mistreated and penal sanctions for animal cruelty are too light.
