Jodhpur, India – A shocking act of cruelty against a pet dog has triggered immediate legal action and strong institutional response, thanks to the intervention of OIPA’s representative in India.
The incident took place in Salawas, Boranada Road, in the district of Jodhpur (Rajasthan), where a pet dog named Boss was brutally killed in a premeditated act of violence. According to CCTV footage, the dog was lured with bread before the perpetrators tied an iron wire around his neck and used a JCB excavator to hang him, causing a prolonged and painful death.
The case was promptly taken up by Advocate Manish Saxena, OIPA ETS Representative in India, Director of the WORLD (Wing of Research In Local Development) and a long-standing advocate for animal rights. With over 26 years of experience in animal welfare, Saxena also serves as a member of the State Animal Welfare Board of Rajasthan, the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) and Representative, Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI), Government of India.
Strongly condemning the act, Saxena immediately initiated legal proceedings, urging authorities to investigate the case under Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960.
His intervention led to swift action from the State Animal Welfare Board of Rajasthan, which issued official directives to key authorities, including the District Collector of Jodhpur, the Inspector General of Police, and Member Secretary, SPCA Jodhpur to ensure an immediate investigation and prosecution of those responsible.
As a result of these efforts, two suspects—Mainpal and Rajkumar—have been arrested by the police of Vivek Vihar Police Station in Jodhpur. The JCB machine used in the crime has also been seized, and the accused have been presented before the court for further legal proceedings.
In addition, the State Animal Welfare Board has called for stronger preventive measures to deter future acts of cruelty, highlighting the urgent need for stricter enforcement of animal protection laws in India.
This case once again underscores the critical role of coordinated action between civil society organizations, legal advocates, and public authorities in combating animal cruelty and ensuring justice.
