In many communities across Tanzania, access to veterinary care remains extremely limited, leaving countless animals without even the most basic treatment or protection. It is within this reality that Alpha Maiseli has chosen to dedicate his work, building practical and compassionate solutions for both animals and the people who care for them.
Alpha is the Founder of Animal Smile Africa, a nonprofit organization working to create a more humane and sustainable future for animals through veterinary outreach, education, and community engagement. His mission goes beyond emergency support: it is rooted in the belief that lasting change begins with awareness, collaboration, and empowering local communities.
In Tanzania, Alpha leads initiatives that bring free veterinary services directly into underserved areas, including vaccination campaigns, deworming, and medical treatment for animals that would otherwise receive no care at all. At the same time, he actively promotes humane education activities for communities and children, helping foster a new culture of empathy and respect towards animals.
A strong believer in the importance of education and capacity building, Alpha has also dedicated significant efforts to supporting veterinary and paravet students through hands-on clinical training programs. By helping young professionals gain practical skills and confidence in animal handling and treatment, he contributes to building a new generation of compassionate animal health workers in Tanzania.
His experience as an outreach supervisor and coordinator for Visele Liv Crop Skills Training Centre paravet students during the “Dog of Dodoma” program, organized by International Veterinary Outreach, further strengthened his commitment to community-based animal welfare initiatives and sustainable veterinary care.
As OIPA Representative in Tanzania, Alpha aims to strengthen cooperation with local stakeholders, expand awareness on animal welfare issues, and promote practical solutions that can create a meaningful and lasting impact for animals and communities alike.
