Urgent: Stop the Killing of Stray Animals in Kajjansi, Uganda!

Stop killing strays in Kajjansi. A Call to Action to Prevent the Inhumane Slaughter of Stray Animals

The Kajjansi Town Council in Uganda has made a heart-wrenching decision to kill stray dogs and cats in the wards of of Bulwanyi, Nankonge, Nsangu, Nkungulutale, Sissa, Kitende, and Nakawuka on November 21st, 2024. This cruel and outdated practice is not only inhumane but also ineffective in managing the stray animal population.

As an international animal protection organization, we have written a letter to the Kajjansi Town Council ( Letter to Kajjansi Town Council ) urging them to reconsider this decision and adopt a more humane and sustainable approach, such as Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR). TNVR involves capturing stray animals, sterilizing them, vaccinating them against rabies, and then returning them to their original location. TNVR has proven to be highly effective in reducing stray animal populations while also improving their overall health and well-being.

We urge the Kajjansi Town Council to reconsider this inhumane decision and adopt TNVR instead.
