Our member league BETA (Beirut for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) asked us for help.

The life of stray dogs is not easy in Lebanon. Although it is illegal, many stray dogs are being shot and poisoned. Many of them are fed by animal lovers in different areas of the country, but they can barely afford to provide food, not to spay/neuter them. Among these activists are those from BETA.

In addition to the funds necessary to continue providing daily care to its guests, BETA needs financial assistance to sterilize approximately 200 female dogs, thus helping to reduce the number of stray animals. But we want to do more. It would be wonderful to find homes for these dogs, so we are looking for people willing to adopt one or more of them

BETA Lebanon

who beta is

BETA is one of the most active animal shelters in Lebanon and also the first to initiate and start rescuing dogs, cats and other species of wildlife in its founding country. It takes care of almost 1,500 animals every day (1250 dogs and 230 cats and other residents like donkeys, horses, monkeys…) and it tries to find a solution to the problem of the thousands of stray dogs all over Lebanon. For this reason, it is continuously striving to cover the daily expenses of running its shelters.

BETA provides rehabilitation and a safe haven while striving to find them loving, permanent homes these animals deserve. Through education and direct action, BETA’s volunteers work to prevent animal overpopulation and cruelty and encourage a society that treats animals with compassion.

BETA’S MISSION

BETA’s mission is to strive towards ensuring that one day all animals in Lebanon will get the chance to live safely and securely. It’s their goal to educate individuals and take direct action to help animals in Lebanon live the life they deserve.

Since the escalation of the situation in Lebanon, last year BETA rescued over 100 abandoned dogs from the streets of South Lebanon and other high risk devastated areas. It have also helped 90 dogs in a shelter located in South Lebanon in a somehow secluded place by providing them with food, spaying and neutering as well as deworming and ticks and flees treatments

The spaying, microchipping and rabies vaccine of female dogs costs us US$130, the neutering, microchipping and rabies vaccine of males costs US$100. Now BETA’s plan is to start with the spaying of 200 females which requires a budget of $26,000. BETA believes TNR program (Trap-Neuter-Return) is the only solution to solve the problem of the thousands of strays in Lebanon.

LET’S ADOPT THESE SOULS

BETA volunteers constantly strive to give their animals a new life and believe that finding them a family is the best solution. For this reason, we are looking for people willing to take care of their dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please write to us at international@oipa.org and we will put you in touch with BETA.
