Greece fires: Animals in trouble need your help

As violent wildfires hit the Athens region in Greece, killing many and leaving numerous families without a shelter or car, animals face serious danger, too.

The death toll reported by local authorities climbed to 91 and 25 people are still declared missing after Europe’s deadliest forest fire in over a century. Excessive numbers of animals, whether wild or pets, have perished in flames.

What is most important in tragic situations like this one is to lean a hand of help towards those in need and struggling. This is exactly what the Nine Lives Greece association has been doing for the past two weeks: as the wildfires spread across the Athens region, their volunteers were tirelessly trying to find cats who survived the tragedy. Like many other associations, trying to help animals in need or left alone after many of them lost their human families, Nine Lives Greece focuses on cats and they already managed to rescue dozens of them and provide them with any medications/surgeries/care they needed. Many of these cats arrive with serious burns or broken bones, mostly caused by the fear that they experienced while trying to hide from the flames by crawling in dangerous places.

This is why, OIPA International kindly wants to invite you to check Nine Lives Greece’s page on Facebook and their website, and if you feel like you want to help them and contribute to more cats being rescued, you will find all the information there and a group of kind-hearted people ready to answer your questions.
