OIPA Italy animal control officers recently seized two 3-month-old puppies forced to spend their days confined in a tiny cage. Their guardian openly declared that “puppies were taken to entertain his kids”. Reported to the Prosecutor’s office, the man is now accused of animal mistreatment and detention of animals with conditions incompatible with their nature and productive of severe suffering, according to Article 544-ter and 727, paragraph 2, of the Penal Code.

Some citizens informed our volunteers about this touching situation and they spent days investigating if puppies were actually kept in the way so sadly described. They went by in plain clothes several times at different times noticing that puppies were really confined in a small cage located in the yard of the apartment for most of their days and nights, sometimes even under the heavy sun with no protection and without water.

They were taken out of the cage only to entertain children and locked again up when kids got bored, like an old toy no longer funny and interesting.

They have been welcomed at the local shelter waiting to find a temporary foster home.
