Our animal control officers in Italy have declared: “One of the most disturbing hard-to watch scene of animal neglect!”
A horse so severely neglected that its skeleton was poking through its skin and other four equids found in a paddock on the brink of starvation, two of which severely malnourished.
This is the heart wrenching scene OIPA Italy animal control officers had to be faced with during their operation in Moconesi, a municipality in the province of Genova.
Animals have been seized and their owner investigated for cruelty to animals according to Article 544-ter of the Italian Criminal Code.
«A seizure that was one of the worst for us. The scene of the skinny horse dying was devastating. He was an Arabian stallion,” – has declared the coordinator of our animal welfare officers in Genova -«The two veterinarians who rushed to the site, one from a private clinic and one from the public vet department, agreed to euthanize the stallion to end his suffering. It’s a story we won’t forget. We have seized the other four horses and we hope for a happy ending at least for them.”
OIPA legal office will ask the mayor of Moconesi and the public veterinary service to evaluate and issue a legal measure that prevents the suspect from keeping animals for any reason.
