BEIRUT EXPLOSION, ANIMALS LEBANON ON THE GROUND TO RESCUE INJURED AND LOST PETS AND STRAYS

The terrible blast affected not only people who got injured, lost familiars, affections, homes and commodities but also animals suffered terribly because of this horrific disaster. Our member league Animals Lebanon has been on the ground since day one organizing search groups to help families who lost their pets and rescuing and assisting animals and strays badly injured in all areas of the city. Animals Lebanon continues to provide food and medical care but supplies start running out and they need help to save as many lives as possible. More than ever, we cannot leave them alone, Your support is necessary to help animals who have lost everything.

STOP THE EXPLOITATION OF MONKEYS IN THE THAI COCONUT INDUSTRY

In some regions of Thailand, pig-tailed macaques are intentionally bred and abusively trained to harvest coconuts for the export industry. Monkeys are snatched from their natural habitat when they are just babies and undergo extremely intensive training in special facilities and forced to pick up fruit for the rest of their life. They are often tethered with a rigid collar, kept chained and confined in cages with no shelter. Continued abuses cause frustration and stress to monkeys, that deprived from freedom, movement, motivations and socialization, display stereotypic behaviours and, driven to desperation, slowly lose their mind. Now that we all know, we should stop to feed this terrible industry.

OIPA CAMEROON CREATES THE FIRST MOBILE VETERINARY CLINIC IN THE COUNTRY

OIPA Cameroon is the first animal rights association to have created a mobile veterinary clinic in the whole Country. Thanks to this great initiative, more animals can now be rescued and treated and completely free medical care to companions as well as stray dogs and cats will be provided in many rural communities. Our delegation has treated over 260 dogs and cats since the beginning of the pandemic but needs support to keep the new mobile vet clinic operative: medicines, surgical instruments, disposable sterile syringes and medications are always necessary.

CORPSES OF ANIMALS FOUND FROZEN AND 36 SEGREGATED, SEIZED BY OIPA ITALY

Corpses of dogs and cats, even puppies, found frozen. Dogs segregated in a fetid bathroom that was entirely covered with their excrements. Twelve sick cats locked up in carriers and still other dogs, for a total of twenty-four animals plus a turtle, some roosters and hens have been found segregated in two houses in a small village of Italy. A macabre and gruesome scenario, the one that showed up to the Italian OIPA animal control officers following numerous reports received by the neighbours that for a long time complained about the hygienic conditions and the bad smell. All the animals were seized and transported to suitable facilities, while the owner has been reported for animal abuse.

PLANETARY CHALLENGE: VIRTUAL DISCUSSION ON THE NEXT UNEP MEDIUM-TERM STRATEGY 2022-2025

As accredited member to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), OIPA International had the honour to participate in a virtual conversation about the next UNEP’s Medium-Term Strategy for the period 2022-2025. The strategy is being developed to ensure that, as nations invest in building back a better world from the current COVID-19 pandemic, their efforts do not merely recover the old and unsustainable economic models of yesterday, but act out new models aimed to build a healthier, greener, more sustainable and resilient economy based on human and planetary wellbeing.

CORALS ARE GLOWING IN A DESPERATE ATTEMPT TO SURVIVE. JOIN THE CAMPAIGN #GLOWINGGONE TO PROTECT THE OCEAN

Have you ever noticed that some corals glow in vibrant colours? Have you ever thought why they are coloured like this? You may think it is beautiful but in reality, it is one of the most disturbing and sad spectacular signs in nature. Because of the increase of ocean heat waves due to climate change, corals produce brightly coloured chemicals in their flesh that act like sunscreen in a desperate attempt to survive and protect themselves. OIPA International has decided to join the activation campaign #GlowingGone launched by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and The Ocean Agency, to sustain and support a global action for greater ocean protection. Join the #OceanLeague movement and show support for protecting the ocean that sustains us all.
